The pencil and mixed media drawings of Patriomanis and Phataginus appeared in the following article: Gaudin, T.J., R.J. Emry, and J.R. Wible. 2009. The Phylogeny of Living and Extinct Pangolins (Mammalia, Pholidota) and Associated Taxa: a Morphology Based Analysis. [Journal of Mammalian Evolution. 16(4): 235-305]. With permission from Springer, Inc.

Patriomanis americana was a species of pangolin that lived in the late Eocene era, some 30-40 million years ago. P. americana is the only pangolin known from the western hemisphere and lived in western North America. Its first fossils were found in Alcova, Wyoming, and were initially misidentified as an “immature carnivore.”

The color life reconstruction of Patriomanis americana is painted in oils on Claybord. A monograph on Patriomanis has recently been published by Smithsonian Scholarly Press, with over 100 drawings of Patriomanis fossils, plus the life reconstruction, that I have done over the past few years.
