Hapalops is an extinct genus of ground sloth from the early Miocene of South America. Like most extinct sloths it is categorized as a ground sloth, but it is believed that the smaller size of Hapalops allowed it to engage in some climbing behaviors.

Priodontes maximus, or giant armadillo, is the largest living species of amadillo. It was once found widely throughout the tropical forests of South America but is now in danger of extinction.
Pronothrotherium is an extinct genus of ground sloth from South America.

The stipple drawings of Hapalops (based on FMNH P15318) and the pen and ink drawing of Priodontes maximus (based on FMNH 25271) appeared in the following article: Gaudin, T.J., 1999. The Morphology of Xenarthrous Vertebrae (Mammalia, Xenarthra). [Fieldiana (Geology), n.s., no. 41, 38pp] published by Field Museum. Scale bars = 1 cm.
